True of false: Only women name their cars

Go post this on a motorcycle forum. Bunch of guys name their bikes for some strange reason.

My wife has never named any of her cars... nor have I.

I'm going with false, that's my final answer.

Wow I bet the squid factor on those is sky high; I've never seen that before. That's like naming your skis.

I bet it is too. I'm not in the habit of naming inanimate objects but these threads pop up on the SV forum from time to time and I seem to be in the minority in the biker community on this. Maybe it is newb bike owners who are more prone to this odd behavior though. You don't see too many Ducati owners naming their bikes.

A female friend of mine, named Cat, and called Kitty to her mild annoyance, once insisted I should name my Grand Prix.

I told her I'd name it Kit (partially as a reference to Knight Rider), and she never bugged me about it again.

Spent too much time around boats when I was little and picked up the old superstition about an un-named vessel being bad luck. Somewhere along the line I applied the same (lack of) logic to cars and now my cars do tend to be named, though I generally only refer to them as either "the little red car" or "the Volvo" in actual practice.

OP fail...

Eleanor ring a bell?

In today's world, most guys I know aren't doing this...however; on car forums many dudes have names for their cars.

I think I've known more men to name their car than women, regardless of sex I think it's silly.

I probably have too, although I don't really think it's that silly. Manly men of yore used to name their guns and their cars alike.

Face it. We men have always taken a tender, propriety interest in our vehicles, which is likely why we have often referred to them as "she," but never "he."

"She's a real beaut, ain't she?"

I always thought naming your vehicle was kind of endearing, and have tried more than once in the past to do so, but could never muster the requisite enthusiasm to come up with a name that stuck, even with me. <shrug>

this. I named a few cars, but actually forget what I called them! lol! The trick is finding a name that I cant already associate with someone I know. I wanted to call my MR2 "Marty" but I know two guys named Marty already. Kinda awkward and a little weird... for both me and them. That and its easier for other people to just say "the silver one".

And to answer the OP's question (and agree with Alkemyst :shudder🙂 have you never watched the "Gone in 60 Seconds" movies? I know more guys than girls that have done it.

I only name vehicles that have a lot of presence or personality. My current car is something of an appliance, and thus gets no name.

But I did have an old 80s mustang that was the millennium falcon (someone else named it, it stuck .. rickety silver bucket of bolts that was fast and scary), and a 77 el camino that was named 'El Diablo Negro' by one of my old friends from Matamoros, which seemed to fit.

True.

I've heard of "Puccar" -- named after the cartoon character Pucca, "Pikkar" -- named after Pikachu, and "Pudge" -- named after the fish in Lilo and Stitch (it's a Sports model so it became Spudge). All the cars were named by my fiancee and her sister.
