The GF has a Pentium 233 MMX with 64 MB SDRAM and Win 98. If I got her a PCI Voodoo3, would that play Quake III? (lowest resolutions)

She likes Q3 on my Radeon/Celeron 880.

Or should I just give up?

I highly doubt it. The CPU( Pentium 233 MMX) is a bottleneck to that good videocard.

The box says -

Pentium 233MMX with 8MB Video Card or
Pentium 2 266 with 4MB Viseo card or
AMD 350 K6-2 with 4MB video card
64MB Ram

or

P3 800MHz with 64MB GeForce3 ASUS v8200 Deluxe flying piece of kit video card, ;)

I played some online QIII here at work with a K6-200@ 250MHz, 64mb ram, and a TNT1, 640x480 and it's terribly choppy. I think 96mb should be the minimumum for ram. She will not enjoy the experience.

It depends on what her standards for framerates are. With a little tweaking, it could probably get to the 30fps range (no telling on the consistency though). However, if she's been spoiled by a Radeon running the game in 32bit glory, she'll want to hog your machine :)
