True/False: The only way to achieve true surround sound gaming on the Xbox is using an optical connection.

I'm talking positional sound, not front/rear mirrored sound or even Dolby Surround.

I ask because I recently bought this Logitech X-620 Speaker System for 6.1 surround sound. It says it has a "video game console adapter" which looks like this. That looks like it takes the front stereo miniplug and rear stereo miniplug you'd hook up to a computer and converts both to two single RCA connectors. How can you get positional sound out of that? 😕

Hah! That's the least of my mistakes concerning that company. I've actually WORKED for them. 😀

P.S. Anyone with a clue want to respond? 😛

"your Xbox didn't come standard with a digital audio output, but you're gonna need one for this to work, so hightail it to the store for the Advanced AV Pack or High Definition AV Pack, both of which have digital audio outputs."

You don't. You have to run the speakers in mode '4' which (best as I can tell) just puts the same signal to the left front/rear and the other signal to the right front/rear. The Logitech site has setup directions, but unless you have a sound card with seperate outputs (front, rear, center) or another adapter to convert the xbox digital output into seperate channels you won't be able to use all the features.

Sorry.

btw, this should be in peripherals... Please use the proper forum 😉

TRUE. You need the optical. I have an Xbox, 5.1 speaker setup, Xbox Advance AV adaptor, and optical cable. Playing games in surround sound is just incredible.
