Crypticburn is right about the origination of Christmas. However, that having been done, here's what Christmas is supposed to be about and what it would mean to me if I celebrated it:
Etymology: "
Cristes mæsse, literally, Christ's mass"
Ask yourself if that's what you believe in and practice. Personally, I don't do what I don't believe in. I sing the songs, especially when the media doesn't have it in your face. It's great to hear them in good spirit. This holiday is nice because there has been so little of the commercialisation.
Honestly, Bleeb, in regards to what inspired you to pose this question: Did you really think that Christmas still had its original meaning? It's been long secularised and commercialised. Who cares? Just recently, I heard on the
news that some people objected to kids (choir) singing traditional Christmas songs of religious implications (i.e., anyone with Christ in it). Hello? Whoever is in charge, let us know if Christmas is really about Christ or if it's officially meaningless as it seems.
