I doubt a 290/290x reference would be a good idea. but a 285 or 380 sure is within range and better for such a system.

LOL... Really, learn to eBay? Of course expired listings would also behave like that, but I find it hard to believe any of the ones under $150 would expire without a single bid. Please though, show me some of these used R9 290s that are selling for $120-$150. I see a single working one in all of February that sold under $150, and it was a reference one with the retaining tab ripped off the PCB.
ahhaha. you need to learn, that is all. no skin off my back :) I am just here giving out info, it is up to the posters here on this forum to take it or not. I am actually trying to be helpful but I don't want to be hand holding anyone. If you don't have ebay skills, there is always 950 :D

you can always slap on a 3rd party cooler if you can find a stock 290 for 100$. just have to be 100% sure the card is defect free first. firestrike benchmark works wonders in digging up artifacts and such problems.

Just a quick update.
Received the card on Monday, delivered the PC Tuesday. I had little time to compare it and test, but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. On the limited tests I ran, it gave my 270x PCs+ a fierce fight.

Will report later with some numbers, but in a quick summary the GTX950 is almost 270x performance at a lower price and furthermore, good availability, something that cannot be said anymore of the 270X, specially not close to the $120-$130 mark that the GTX950 is popping up.

On a side rant, it is beyond me why somebody at AMD (product manager?) decided that the R7 300 series was to be "pro" chips. The GPUs are so mature that there should be literally no rejects from the full blown "XT" parts...
