COMMERCE -- Protesting truckers have abandoned jack-knifed trucks on the northbound I-5 at Commerce (east of downtown Los Angeles), according to the California Highway Patrol.

About half a dozen trucks have been halted on the freeway. The truckers have taken the keys. They are upset over spiraling diesel fuel costs.

It is rumored that truckers intend to block other freeways as well.

The oil supply isn't really that bad. It's that this country hasn't built any new refineries in over twenty years. We have plenty of crude oil, but not enough capacity to turn it into gasoline.

As a human being I have absolutely no tolerance for this sort of thing. If I was in charge, and thank your stars I'm not, I'd have these people getting executed on tv for doing something like this. In a way they're holding everybody hostage and forcing everybody else in to their little effort. I also would like to see burned to death those who picked in front of employer's and keep out temp workers.

Truckers who own and operate their own rigs say they are being stung by the cost of diesel fuel, which has risen to $2.40 a gallon. They are demanding shipping and trucking companies share their pain by increasing shipping fees paid per container.
End Quote

$1.68 here for diesel

I agree with Skoorb, what is the difference between these "TERRORISTS" and those in Al Queda?

Is that HIGHWAY diesel or the other. There is cheaper diesel but it can't be used by some trucks or vehicals.

Don't drive in California?

I blame all the gas companies for not building refineries. The cost per barrel of crude has been much higher before

WTF is wrong with protesting? Somebody has to do it or NOTHING will get done. I agree that gas prices are ridiculous and the only reason why we are getting shafted is because our government needs to get some balls and say enough is enough.

Truckers blocking L.A. freeway

City News Service

LOS ANGELES ? Two big-rig trucks are blocking all northbound lanes of the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway north of Washington Boulevard in Commerce, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Fox 11 is reporting that the trucks were stopped intentionally by the drivers in a protest over the high cost of fuel and that truckers intend to block other freeways as well.

KTLA/5 reported that the CHP had taken three truck drivers into custody.

The station also said it was receiving reports that the westbound Santa Monica (I-10) Freeway also is being blocked.

I blame environmentalist wackos for getting in the way of refinery building, power plant construction, and native oil drilling. they just want to wreak havoc on the economy.

From everything I read the regulatory hurdles and the NIMBYs are responsible for that, not the oil companies.

I don't see inconveniencing thousands upon thousands of motorists who have nothing to do with the issue as a valid protest. Block an oil company entryway or somebody that actually has an involvement in the issue at hand.
