Truck plows into Delaware company AnalTech, releasing odor that leads to HazMat situation

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...odor-leads-hazmat-situation-article-1.3189762

It was an unforgettable day at the memorably-named company AnalTech.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday, a car crash involving two pickup trucks sent one of the vehicles inside the AnalTech building of Newark, Del., leaving a giant hole.

The truck damaged the facility's laboratory and caused an odor to emanate from the cavity, WDEL reports.

Accordingly, first responders alerted the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, which brought in a HazMat team to handle any leaks.

Though Environmental Control has yet to uncover exactly what materials were damaged in the accident, the scene was eventually deemed safe after three hours.

Two people, one in each truck, were injured with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation by Delaware State Police.

While AnalTech, a manufacturer of thin-layer chromatography plates, could not be reached for comment about the incident, they've been vocal in the past about the history of its company name.

In an email sent to the Houston Chronicle, a spokesperson revealed, "In 1964, the company paid a marketing firm to come up with a different name. They said, 'Well, you guys do Analytical Technology – why don’t you put the two words together and call it ‘AnalTech!' ”

However, the spokesperson admitted that "AnalTech faces certain challenges because of the 'juvenile' humor that has developed in the past few decades and current web filters that may block the company name" and has considered rebranding as a result.

Why have they only "considered rebranding" and not just done it? The act of considering it is like a single day's worth of work.

Probably free publicity, like this.

I've never tried a thin-layer chromatography plate butt-plug but it sounds like they can get pretty smelly.

I'm surprised at the shoddy reporting. The reporter didn't even mention how the driver fled the scene, headed north past the Siemens building, and tried to ram into Mouthtech.

That company sucks

Surprised they haven't sued anandtech for trademark infringement. We should strike first.

Right - we don't want to be the ones catching a subpoena. You always want to be the one giving your subpoena to someone else
