"MPAA: Rated R for graphic violence and some sexuality/nudity."

if you are ok with that, then sure

he has, getting him to read is never a problem. he reads 2 to 3 books a night. we take him to see a movie every other month.

so i'm not concerned about that becoming a problem.

of course not, he's read a childs version of it. but his reading ability is very advanced for his age.

for the record, i read the iliad when i was in 4th grade, my son will probably do the same.

I refuse to be impressed unless you tell us that he read it in Greek.

it's rated R.. he's 7..

ok.. that's not helpful.. too new for there to be tons of info..

ok.. the ontario film review board has rated it 14A - adult accomp. if under 14 (so.. you're ok there, you're not just gonna drop him off!)
and issued an advisory: brutal violence, mature theme, not recommended for children, gory scenes.

Why would you do that? It's not like it's great American literature; if anything, it's confusing, nonsensical and simply boring for anyone under 15. I couldn't stay awake through the damn thing in 9th grade.

Seriously, what's the point of reading the Iliad in fourth grade? I was reading kids' books about the space shuttle and the Civil War back then.

I have used screenit.com before to help determine if a movie is OK for kids, even if your version of OK does't agree with their's, there is usually enough detail to make a  or  decision.

i loved greek mythology. i read all the kids stuff in 2nd and 3rd grades. i read it in 4th grade because there wasn't any of the kids stuff left. it was interesting and i enjoyed the way the english read. (i grew up reading a lot of King James Bible stuff so for me the old english wasn't that difficult).

He's already facing a whole entire world of violence, what difference is one movie going to make?

All Greek to me, but that still doesn't count.

I don't think I would take him, but I don't have kids and I haven't seen it so I'm completely talking out out of my ass.

Take him.

I'm sure, within the film's context, any violence and/or nudity won't be an issue for you or your child. If anything, he'll be embarrassed at the glimpse of Helen's boobage.

i took him to see "the alamo" the other day, and every once in a while he'll watch a Netflix DVD that's R rated with me. he is pretty good about distinguishing between reality and make believe.

also, his real interest really isn't the violence or gore or sex. his primary interest is in the story. he loves stories.

hahahaha. that was just an average dude. sometimes it's more than one movie during a month, other times there are 3 or 4 months without movies.

i think your the one with the problem for taking a statement like i made so literally. ;)

For being so familiar with Old English, you're not so familiar with the contemporary variety:

Don't take him to see Van Helsing...

It's not the loud, violent special effects that will hanut him, but rather the soul-crushingly horrific and mind-destroying ending that will have him waking up in cold sweats for the rest of his life.
