troubleshooting pixelation on new Samsung LED

We bought a new Samsung SmartTV 40" LED UN40ES6500 which has a very nice picture, but it will occasionally pixelate when watching TV video. The pixelation pattern looks comperable to a marginal signal when we use the OTA digital antenna. We have FIOS, so the signal is strong (AFAIK).

I have not seen issues with a DVD.

a)Is this a function of the fact that the 720 FIOS box is trying to fill a 1080 screen?
We had a CRT before this in this slot so there are not issues moving the few pixels that it has. Our other TV is a 720 Panny plasma which has never had issues with pixelation from the FIOS signal. The cable run is a little shorter (50 ft vs 100 ft from the network interface

b) might it be a problem with the TV (Tuner, motherboard?)
c) is there a way to isolate the problem definitively to figure out if there is a problem during the return window of 30 days.

Otherwise, this has been a great TV the DLNA implementation is awesome. and streaming HD video from my samsung galaxy phone OTA works very well and quite simply using allshare

Looks like you answered the question already. It sounds like your FIOS signal is a little weaker than ideal.

I guess I need to watch several DVDs to assure that I don't have another issue. The Fios signal is also going to a Cable modem in the same cabinet and delivering full internet bandwidth, so it seems like the signal is OK despite the split.

I'll call VZ
I'll call Samsung
I'll play DVDs

Can you check with anyone that lives near you with the save service? It sounds like it is either the signal Fios is getting and distributing is the issue. But i suppose it could be their converter box.

have verizon come out, they will troubleshoot it for free until you're happy. The FIOS "modem" which plugs directly into the fiber-coax transceiver is also a coax router of sorts. This is the FIOS configuration for just about everybody. It's called "Multimedia Over Coax Alliance," which is not an industry standard, but calling it "ethernet over coax" is not a bad analogy either, to at least give you a picture in your mind of what's working.

All of the client cable boxes get their TV and data signals from this primary actiontec device via the preexisting coax in your house. It is pretty much a router for your cable boxes and there should be a 100mb ethernet switch and wifi built into it as well.

If all of your TV signals are bad all the time, then the cable in your walls could be suspect. I wouldn't suspect any external interfaces unless the whole neighborhood is unhappy.

Do some basic speed tests on a wired computer and try and get more than 20mbps from someone. That should rule out your fiber device. Either way, get verizon out there and show them a worst case, and have them turn it into a best case.
