After finally getting everything running stable with my new computer that I built for the first time), I am finding my self having some major stability problems.Since this whole deal is completely unpredictable, Here are the steps of what happened (laugh at my apparent stupidity- I have learned from my mistakes
)
After taking my RAM to a friends house (very carefully, antic static bags and all), using it in his computer (being careful about ESD), and then bringing it back home, and installing it on carpet with no anti-static protection or even trivial measures such as touching the metal, the computer wont boot. I have an MSI KT3-Ultra Motherboard, and it comes with a LED-based BIOS POST status reporter. The computer beeped 3 times if I recall correctly and the POST reporter showed "Bad or damaged RAM.".
So I thought "Ok, fried my RAM", began my masochist rituals, and after recovering, got out and bought a new stick of RAM. Stick it in the first slot (very carefully, protection blah blah blah), and the computer doesnt boot. It doesnt beep this time, but the POST reporter does say "bad or damaged memory module". So I try it in the third slot, and it works. Sort of. Boots up fine and all, but is not stable. During intensive and even many non-intensive programs it will freeze, randomly reboot, etc. I tried my friends stick of RAM and the computer was still unstable.
Is there any possibility that the motherboard is not the cause of my eternal damnation? I have also checking RAM speeds, etc.
And help would be greatly appreciated...
