Troubleshooting help needed! ECS K7SEM + 1.0G Durons!!

Okay, I'll praise you beyond belief if you can figure this one out for me:

New system build: ECS K7SEM board with Duron 1.0 = constant lockups. So, I take the Duron and run it in another identical system (K7SEM also) and it runs fine with no lockups. I put a new Athlon in the first system and everything runs fine no lockups. So I think that perhaps the first K7SEM just doesn't like 100FSB, so I run the Athlon on a 100FSB (instead of 133) and no lockups. It seems that this particular motherboard does not like this Duron - am I crazy?

BTW: I'm an experienced system builder, pretty good with troubleshooting but for the Life of me can't figure this one out! I've also built 3 other K7SEM Duron/Athlon systems that don't exhibit any problems whatsoever, so I don't think that the problem is with the motherboard 'model' and these CPUs.

I have a headache...

if you have time, unlock the chip-in-question and run it in the board-in-question at 133 just for sh!ts and giggles. sounds like you just have some pc voodoo going on and will have to run a different chip in this mobo.
 
PC Voodoo, yeah your tellin me! The machine is for a friend, and I don't really want to modding around unlocking the CPU. I'm guessing that many of you also go nuts trying to troubleshoot problems, especially when you can't find an answer - this is why i'm posting the question. It's like a drill in my head, so to get on with Life, I'm just going to convince myself that the board doesn't like Durons - it's really the only logical answer.

(Unless ofcourse somebody else can solve this little problem for me) 😉

have you updated the bios on the new board? (it might have shipped with an old bios that doesnt support the new morgan/palomino... any duron 1ghz or faster is based on the new morgan core design)
 
lol! I knew that one was coming. It's kinda funny, flashing the BIOS should of been one of the first things I thought of, especially considering the fact that I knew the new Durons had the new Morgon core. I actually did think of this, but I think I just assumed that since I bought a batch of K7SEMs from the same vendor, that they all had the same BIOS revision #. I'm going to check the BIOS version on the other couple working boards and see if they are the same as this board that's giving me trouble - thanks for the heads up. God, this is all the bad Karma coming back at me for knocking those K7S5A boards!!

That's actually Plan B if the flashing/BIOS doesn't work. I hope it works because I don't really feel like doing a double open heart transplant on these two systems! With my luck, the BIOS flash won't fix it, I'll end up switching motherboards and just get myself into deeper trouble 😕

I'll post back and let everyone know how it went, won't be for a few days though.
