My ASRock X58 Extreme Open Box has a dead memory channel. Thus I need a new X58. It needs to be ATX, have 2 PCI slots, under 200$, and be able to bring a 920 to 4GHz. I don't really care what site is selling it but Newegg is currently letting me down from what I'm seeing.

All help is very much appreciated and time is of the essence.

Edit: See below posts.

Why not just get a replacement of the same board? It's unlikely that the new one will have the same problem, and it fulfills all your requirements.

But anyway, here's a good board, great OC potential. Only draw back is the number of DIMM slots.

Or for $5 over your budget you can grab the ASUS P6T SE, which is another great board.

I feel terrible for advocating the Egg's open-box items over eBay stuff prior to your purchase. Hopefully your next board will be gold.

@Jd007: I don't think NewEgg replaces open-box items. Just refunds.

lopri is right, Newegg only refunds OB items AND they charged me restocking and tax. And I think I have to pay return shipping as well. Real bummer.

I have an unexplainable dislike for the Giga board but I was considering the P6T SE, which is what I'll probably end up with. I was just hoping for something cheaper.

I'll keep my fingers crossed about the FS/FT forum coming through for me.

Wait, check the system panel. Seriously. My very first boot only 1 channel was recognized. I then tested the other 2 sticks in the working channel, to omit bad ram. They worked. I rebooted a couple of times; went through the bios and nothing.

The god damn system panel with the power button, hdd activitiy light, etc is very vague. I looked at the manual and it was even more vague. So what I did was I took out every wire in the panel and just left the power button in. I haven't had a problem with it since. All the sticks are recognized, and its running great.

You might want to give this a whirl if you haven't already sent it back.

I already tested all my sticks and took out the power/reset/hdd LEDs and such. The only thing in besides power are my fans and the front USB. I consider all of these things things I cannot do without and thus if I have to disc them to get triple channel, that is entirely unacceptable.

It also refuses to update BIOS no matter how I do it.

I'm just going to send it back, sell some old hardware, and probably get the P6T SE.

The system panel does not include things such as USB or fans jfyi

I can understand the bios thing. When I had an email conversation with their tech support, the guy asked why I wanted to upgrade to the latest bios. If I were the boss, I would of fired the tech support guy, that is not an acceptable company attitude. In the end, I took that as a duly noted lesson.

It's a shame you had a problem with your board, it just gives a good board a bad reputation.

Good luck on your new board venture :)

On a whim, I decided I'd try what you suggested before sending this board back. CPU-Z detects all 3 2GB modules. The BIOS says triple channel but does not recognize the middle stick as before. Windows 7 64 still reads 4GB.

I set all my memory settings from timings, to voltage, to frequency to manual to see if anything would change. It reads triple channel but still will only recognize two sticks.

Advice?

Updated BIOS to 1.70. No improvement.

Edit: Will not boot with a stick in just blue or white center slots. Cycles the same codes as if no RAM is in the system at all. Same stick moved to first slot, other two left out: Boot with no issues.

Eh, its fine. I knew I was rolling the dice on an Open Box and on a lower brand tier than I usually buy. Once I send it back and get my refund and send out these old components I just sold, I got either a nice Gigabyte or EVGA board to buy from a couple of guys from FS/FT.
