Troubleshooting a laptop which won't resume from suspend

I have an old laptop which I've re-purposed into a kitchen media pc. It needs to be instant on, so I suspend it when not in use. The problem is, every 5th time or so it hangs when resuming from suspend requiring a hard reboot. The machine is a HP 6720s and runs Vista Business 64bit. Suspend worked fine when it ran Fedora. I have the latest drivers from Windows Update (HP don't even list 64bit Vista drivers for some reason). What else can I do to try and pin down the reason for the hangs on resume?
