Troubleshooting a broken monitor

So I've posted this is the tech. support section to some amount of success, but I feel that this realm would probably serve to give some more results.

Would anyone like to give me a little walkthrough for troubleshooting my monitor (refurbished Hitachi 19" Superscan 776)? A plant was knocked over on top of it and water and dirt spilled in through the grating. I turned the monitor off before anything visibly narsty could happen initially, but the fuse was blown when I tried to turn it back on. I replaced the fuse and it immediately blew again. This is about the stage that I am at now.

I have replaced the fuse (250V 4A Slow Blow) and it blew out immediately. I noticed a grand old spark right above the CRT but only witnessed it through the case of the monitor, as I didn't know if powering up with the case off was a bad idea.
The spark seemed to come from a black plastic box shown in this picture here. The green circle is around the suspected area, but upon opening this box up, all components visibly seemed intact. I have visually scanned as much of the circuitry as I can without taking anything apart and I can't find anything visibly unwell.
I've been told to check the Flyback, the High Output Transistor and the power supply, but I dont know exactly where or what to look for. I can take photos of the monitor and post them if it will help.

TIA
Colin
