Troubleshoot this symtom

Been running a replacement SIS chipset motherboard bought last fall for an older AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton platform to extend the life of an old PC when the Epox 8RDA+ motherboard was tossed. Been running this computer for about 3 or 4 months fine, take it on trips etc since its in a lightweight Lan Boy case.

Suddenly today the computer shuts down. I manage to get it to turn on but it runs only for seconds and shuts down again. Is my Fortron power supply going bad or is it something else, perhaps the mother board. I did try reseating plugs and stuff.

IMHO, I would lean towards the PSU first and would try another one. I always have a couple of extra computers laying around so it is easy for me to do that. It may not as easy for you unless you purchase another one.

But, make sure you check for popped or expanded caps on the mobo.

Good Luck
