Troubles opening NAT on my buddy's D-Link DI-524

My buddy and I were trying to play MW2 on our Xbox 360's last night and he kept being dropped from the party. He said his NAT is set to Strict but he's not technologically savvy and I know next to nothing about networking. Since I wasn't there to help him with it I sat on the phone for almost an hour trying to talk him through the process of unlocking his NAT using various websites and YouTube vids that I found, it didn't help.

Any ideas? He has AT&T DSL internet if that makes a difference. We tried using this YouTube Video but it seems that the software is just slightly different (on the part about the firewall he can't select his new ports).

Just make sure to enable plug and play on the router and the 360 will open all the ports it needs. No need to do any manual configuration.

You'll also need to make sure the DSL modem is in bridge mode (whether you do that by having the router do PPPoE or by having the modem assign a public IP to the router, both accomplish the same thing). If it's not, you'll be double-NATing, and that's not good.

Confirming what kind of modem he has (what's actually plugged in to the phone line) might be useful.
