The newest PC Mech videos produced will also have iPod versions. They can be spotted by the m4v extension. Creating videos is great and I don?t have a problem with it, except when it comes encoding.

I?ll explain.

If you want to make an iPod video, you can convert a Windows AVI or MPEG (but not WMV) via the use of QuickTime Pro. I?ve got my own personal licensed copy. It cost me thirty bucks.

Although I did not know this before I purchased a license, encoding iPod video is painfully slow. It takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r for it to complete its task. Previous to that, I thought encoding FLV?s was the slowest. Not true. That ?honor?, if you will, belongs to QuickTime Pro when doing iPod video encoding.

I thought it might have been my computer or corrupt software, but that isn?t the issue. It?s actually well known that the encoding just takes way, way too long to complete.

Apple, if you?re listening (and I hope you are), please update your software so the encoding at least matches Windows Movie Maker. The fact I can encode Windows video (or even Flash FLV for that matter) lightning fast compared to QuickTime is just sad.
