ok im kinda new to wireless, but i just got a laptop, and got a belkin wireless g router. I then decided i need to put a password so that only i and friends can use the wireless connection. so i set security to WPA-PSK (no server) and used their default encryption technique known as TKIP. I input my desired password and went to my hp Pavilion z5000 laptop and turn on my wireless. i then selected my wireless connection and typed in the password i inputed in the router. it gives me a error telling me.
" The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."
My dad just got a new laptop yesterday as well. he got a sony viao and when i do the same procedure i did to my laptop, his goes right through and connects. but mine keeps giving me this error. so i did a quick format, and re-installed and then it got through just fine. but during the time i was away my little brother was using it and put a crap load of adware/spyware installed on my laptop in the 3 hours i was gone, and i could not get rid of all of it so i did another quick format. and now again it tells me the same error. is there something i may have done wrong or could it be that i need to update my drivers. but then again i never did upgrade my drivers before.
The wireless network card im using is a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN.
I have tired uninstalling it and reinstalling, but it does not work.
Please help if possible, i really do not want to do another quick format to see if it will work.
