Trouble with wifi on new rig

Hi there,

My previous rigs were a Toshiba Laptop and an Ipad. I constantly got good connections to my router with them but with a new desktop I'm getting constant dropouts with my adapter (Asus PCE-N15).

If the signal is good enough for an ipad and a notebook, I'm thinking it's not the router that's the problem, so what can I do to boost the reception on the desktop?

Beercan, Tinfoil, Antenna extender.. any and all suggestions please..

With a desktop PC, antenna placement might be a culprit. You can try using 3rd party antennas that have cables (either omni or directional) and then place it on top of the desk instead of behind the computer. Alternately you can get a USB WiFi dongle that comes with a higher gain antenna and a stand of some sort so that it can be placed. This might be a better option because cabling lowers effective antenna gain. For instance I have had reasonable luck with this device. The included cable allows you to place it away from the PC and can move it around for best signal acquisition. The stand part of the cable holds it in place and allows the antenna to stand upright. The antenna itself is a high gain model, and is detachable in case you want directional or even higher gain.
