So is this DNS server on the public side or on a private side of your network? Also, you stated that you cleared the cache on a machine, what OS/machine is it? Also, what is the IP address of your DNS server and what are the TCP/IP settings of your client that is trying to connect to this site.

It might help us to understand the situation better if you specify what kind of connection and/or router you are using.

Davegod75 got the main point, and you must have missed something or mistyped under the TCP/IP settings.

sorry....well, i have 5 ip's from pacbell. i=one fo them is the dns and one is a web server. i have made entries in the dns server to reflect the web sites ip, domain name, and alias. after i configured everything, it worked fine. i can access the page from anywhere and it comes up fast. i wanted to maek a new alias so i went into the dns server and deleted the current alias. then proceeded to add the new one. after i did, i went to another computer and tried to access the page but it would not come up. i was sure i did everyhting right. i changed nothing else but the alias....once second working, one second not.

i am confused!!

oh yeah, i am sure the settings are ok because i didn't touch them. plus, they were fine before i made the alias change.

I am partially confused. How many alias's did you have? Can you give us the DNS names?

Thanks.

btw thanks shadow...save my ass again!

ok, the original alias was www.sfagento.com ----> which was working fine...no lag or nothing

then i deleted it and created chw.sfagento.com ----> would not work. "this page cannot be..."
so i recreated the originals so now both alias's exist.

this was all on friday.

i cam back on saturday and "boom" it's working!! hooray!! (not for long)

i come back today and i get some voicemails saying that it is down. well, i go and type in the address and it wont show. i refresh 1 more time and "boom" it pulls up. i assumes that the lines were slow so i thought "it's working but it's slow so it will get better"

now, it won't show at all!!! no matter what i do.

wait, just turned around and pressed F5 and it worked....it is so selective!!

is this my ignorance or is there something screwiy with this thing??? \

THANKS ALL!!!!

I would not've created an alias record. I would've created an A record to point to www.sfagento.com, then created an alias for chw.sfagento.com that points to the A record. It almost sounds like you have a DNS server issue. Are you replicating that DNS Zone to any other DNS servers? BTW, is this DNS server your's or your ISP's?

Why subscribe to that fish rag of an online magazine? It is just as bad as TheRegister or even CNET.

I havenot registered Theregister.com, but use CNET.com extensively. Without checking it myself I will not have secon opinion about any site. Techrepublic is a true knowledge base site. Browse it and than have any opinion.

I have browsed TechRepublic. I was subscribed to their TechInfo emails. Nothing but Junk mail.
