Trouble with VLC and DVD playback

I just installed VLC and I've tried it out on a few different DVDs with the same recurring problem: after approximately 10-15 minutes, the audio will suddenly stop while the video will keep playing. Occasionally this is also accompanied by a "Not Responding" crash if VLC isn't closed immediately after this. I've swapped around a couple different audio output modules in the preferences, but I'm still getting the same error.

Any suggestions on what else I can try? Anyone have a similar problem?

By the way, my audio card is a SB Audigy 2 running on Windows XP Pro.

I think of VLC as a bandaid (temporary resolution) for underlying codec problems and other issues. It's unstable, clunky, and doesn't support hotkeys properly.

If you're fixed on free players; try BSplayer, or Quintessential.
