Hi everyone,

I would like to ask few questions.

first, are the two items compatiable?
1. p4c800-e edeluxe
2. asus Radeon 9800 XT/TVD

I read the specification and motherboard said support. I just want to make sure because i bought them along with pentium 3.2GHz 800MHz, 1gb pc3200 memory(kingston 2x512MB), sata 74GB 10,000RPM, creative blaster pro, and thermalstake case 420watt powa supply.

When i boot up, all i heard is beep beep beep.... keep going till i turn computer off. The monitor is blank, nothing happens. Anyone knows what should i do or some comments for some general mistake? i redo it and only with cpu, mother, memory(1x512) and sata harddrive. I still heard the beep and nothing is appearing on the monitor.

any helps I am really appreciated them.

thanks in advance.

Hi nhan, welcome to the Forums :) That is good-quality hardware, and the video card should work with the motherboard. Here are some things to look at:

 • Is the ATX12V power connected to the motherboard?
 • Is the AGP card plugged into both rows of AGP contacts? I have pictures here that show it halfway in the slot, and all the way in the slot.
 • Check the small switch on the rear of the power supply to see if it is set to the correct voltage for your area (115 volts or 230 volts)
 • Remember to plug in a power cable on your video card, since it needs extra power directly from the power supply
 • Check your keyboard and mouse to be sure they are in the correct ports, if they have the round PS/2 plugs (photos of the port layout
 • If you have any slow-turning fans plugged directly into the motherboard's small 3-pin power headers, try leaving them unplugged as a test. This includes the power supply's own fan, if it has a three-pin fan wire. I have a different Asus motherboard that won't display a POST screen if I have a certain slow-running fan plugged into it.
If it still won't run, then you may want to try the "bench-test" like I have shown here, with the motherboard sitting on its box and only the essential parts connected. This eliminates the case as a source of electrical problems. Good luck, and let us know what your results are :)

I looked at the Asus CPU-support page to see if all 3.2GHz Pentium4's are supported by all BIOS versions. I see that you need BIOS version 1016 or later if you have a Prescott-core Pentium4 (this would be the 3.2E model). You can look on your motherboard's BIOS chip for a sticker that says what BIOS version it originally had. If it is not numbered at least 1016 then you may need to update the BIOS to make the system work with a 3.2E (if that is what you have).

Updating the BIOS requires a working CPU, so if this is the problem, then you may need to buy a cheap Celeron so you can update your BIOS.

thanks mech,

the version on bios chip on motherboard says:
PPCE9
1016
611C

so i assume it should work, but it is not. still beeping now after i just redo 'bench-test' like you show above. also, i notices that after a few beep, video card fans stop turning, and still beep. I am going to exchange the cpu and see if anything comes up.

thanks.

Good luck! :) I think the P4C800-E Deluxe has the voice diagnostics too, so you could also plug headphones or self-powered speakers into the green audio jack on the rear of the motherboard and listen for an error message like "System CPU fail!" too.

after replacing the cpu, still not boot. beeping stilll beep. the audio i can't hear anything (from default motherboard and from the case(hook it up to front-panel audio on m/b)).

--Maybe install mistake?
i only have
1. motherboard
2. cpu (northwood)
3. memory
4. video card
5. wb sata harddrive.
6. power supply 420watt

-i hooked them as instruction. for the sata harddrive, i use red cable(sata) and hooked it up to sata1 on motherboard. hum do i need ide harddrive for it to work? if so( i hook a 12gb to prim ide and still nothing)

-video card- on motherboard, there the agp slot there are 4 rectangle.(heh). there is one with label please remove it with agp pro card. i don't think asus 9800xt is pro so i was not removing it.
on the video card there two gold thingi and one with secure slot?(lol how to describe it.) i hook them up. i connect one 4 pin power supply to the video card.

--when i power up it starting beeping. light on motherboard is light up. the video card fans run but stop after few beep. and that's it. nothing on screen. then i use my cheap-ass pci video card 16mb plug in and i still not see anything on monitor.
--what 3 beep( beep ...beep ... beep) mean? (it stops then it going 3 beep and keep looping).
--any mistakes? if not. the motherboard is fried? (exchange for new one? then this would be suck cause i have to ship back to newegg heh)

once again thanks much.

Hey nhan sorry to hear about your problems, man that can be frustrating. This kind of alarms me as I have just ordered this board to replace a fried Gigabyte SINXP and I'm using a Raedon 9700 AIW so I'm excpecting some headaches. One thing that I remeber doing with my old board to get it to work was removing the battery to reset the board and then using an old pci vid card during format and install. I must have removed the boards battery four or five times before the old card worked but eventually it did and I could start loading windows. Once the install was complete I loaded on the most current chipset drivers and then installed my AIW and everything went smooth from there. I followed the XP installation guide thats floating around on ASUS boards and my machine ran great for a year and a half until a recent lightining strike killed everything. I don't know if this will help but hey when all else fails...

I found this in a Tech Support Forum, hope this helps!

First time posting and in need of help. At start up as soon as I push the power button I'm getting 3 beeps and a short pause then one other beep. I then get the Asus splash screen then my Intel raid screen and then my promise screen. One more short beep just as windows is loading. (I assume that this last beep is detecting my USB mouse.) Windows starts and runs good. On boot up my ram is showing 1gig installed. I have run memory test and it shows the ram as being good. I search for help on the web and everything I am getting refers to (Base Memory error) & or (Base Memory read/write test error) I have switched out each chip and ran them in every slot single and double. Same beep code is coming up. Is this the Ram or MoBo that is causing the problem on booting? How do I go about correcting this problem? I did have one response from Lee (@ ASUS Tec. Support) and he stated that this is the new bios and that the beeps were detecting my USB devices. The only problem is my mouse is the only USB device I have and I?m getting 3 BEEPS. Thank you all in advance for your help!

Hi Vulcan498, and welcome to the forum!

I was going to say what Lee said, but having 1 USB device sort of negates that. The mobo does beep as it enumerates USB devices, and I also think there is now a BIOS setting which can turn that off (not shown in the manual).

In my opinion I guess if the system is running OK for you except for some extra beeps, and memory diagnostics show the RAM is OK, I would just ignore the beeps and treat it as "just one of those things".

One other thing you could try is to plug mini-headphones into the green Line-out jack at the rear (this assumes no front audio is attached, such that the original two FP_AUDIO jumpers are still in place). Repeat the problem while listening in the headphones. See if you get a "vocal POST message" explaining or confirming the problem. A BIOS setting, Advanced- Speech Configuration- "Speech Post Reporter", is also required to be Enabled.

Hope this helps,

-clintfan

Hello clintfan1
And thank you for your response! I might need to take you up on your suggestion and just ignore the beeps and treat it as "just one of those things". I tried the Post message and the only thing I?m getting is a sweet lady telling me the operating system is starting. LOL Anyway this is the first system for me to build and I want to cover all the bases so I don?t run into and trouble down the road. I have added my specs so maybe if some might have any suggestions on the Beeps they can help out.

Thermaltake Xaser Damier V 5000 case
Aspire ATX-AS500W-12V PS
ASUS P4C800E Deluxe
Intel CPU P4/3.4CGHz 800M 478P/512K HT with a Thermalright SP-94 Heatsink

Update! After finally talking to someone with intelligence at Asus they are now telling me that my Bios are bad and I need to RMA my mobo. I also tried flashing them and it didn't help. So I guess we will see what happens in about 3 weeks when I get my mobo back  Thank you all for your help and I will return and let you know the outcome.
