Trouble with the 780

Just got a new Asus DCU2 780 to replace my Radeon 6950 the other night. I installed it, downloaded the drivers, uninstalled CCC, but still was having problems in game. Went so far as to format both of my hard drives to remove any trace of CCC, and give the 780 a fresh start, and I'm still having issues.

I just got D3 installed again for a test run to see if it was fixed, and it isn't. The problem is in game the resolution, I want to say, is very poor. The text is blocky and not sharp, the character models are blocky and not sharp, but other parts of the game kinda seem alright, like a teleport portal looks almost like it should.

In game the graphics are all set to what they should be. Nvidia's Geforce Experience says the game is optimized, yet it still looks terrible. There's almost a disconnect between what the card and game is telling, and what I'm seeing, it's very hard to decribe.

I even tried to upload a screenshot that i took, and when I copied it into paint, the screenshot looked completely normal, with none of the problems I'm describing. I'm not very technically savvy, but I am completely dumbfounded right now.

Is there something I'm missing? Is there more to Nvidia cards than just basically plug in and play?

So I think I figured out the problem, the screw up seems to happen when my TV, a Sony Bravia, switches it's scene select to Game. Because when I tab out with the game still open, my desktop has the same issues. When I close the game, everything is fine. From what I can see to adjust the scene select or disable it I think I need the original remote control which broke and got thrown away a long time ago. But if anyone has ever had this problem, and has an idea of how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Thank you.

It indeed sounds like it is a screwed up setting on the TV, because of the screenshot looking normal. That means the graphic card output is normal, and your display is changing something. I'll look into changing settings without the remote if I have time tonight, what is the model # of the TV and how are you connecting the GTX 780 (DVI, HDMI, etc..)?

Here is a thread for another user's calibration using the TV as an external monitor for his Macbook via HDMI, so you might want to try these settings. It looks like he mentions picture "enhancements" being off, which is probably where your problem lies.

This thread also seems to have a lot of useful information for the Bravia/XBR series TVs as a monitor, give it a read through and see if you can pull any tips out of it. My guess is that you need to turn over-scan off and full-pixel mode on. Most look like tips for the XBR series, but your TV might be similar.

As far as accessing the menu options, you might indeed need to purchase the remote that came with the TV.

Oh Snap! I fixed it! Had to go into Nvidia Control Panel, Display, Adjust Desktop Color Setting, and switch Content type reported to display from Auto-select to desktop programs.

Thanks again 96Firebird, really appreciate the help.

No problem, although it looks like my prediction was way off! Glad you got it fixed though.
