Trouble with Steam

I have had Steam on 3 different computers now, but I have never gotten it to work properly. It was never a big deal to me, because I didn't use it much (just for Counterstrike, and HL2). Lately I have noticed that many of the best new games are being released on Steam, and I would like to start using it more to avoid having to keep track of the CD's.

The problems I have are that the none of the tabs work in Steam other than the "My Games" tab. This has been true for each computer that I have installed it on. Also, none of the text boxes that come up ever show any actual text (like the update news). Even the EULA was blank when I installed Prey a few weeks ago. Is this a common problem, and if so is there an easy way to fix it?

Might want to head on over to steam and email/ask on their forums.

Alright, I just signed up for an account over at Steampowered.com. They have the most annoying text pictures I have ever seen.

I couldn't find the problem that I am having anywhere on the forum, but I don't know the best way to search for it either. It may not be that common, but since it happened on each install I have ever done, I would think that it is common. I haven't gotten permission to post yet, so I am going to have to wait to ask the question over there.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is pretty obvious, but I was hoping that someone here might have an idea so I didn't need to sign up at a new site.

I posted the question on Steampowered.com. I will post the solution here when I find out, in case anyone else has the same problem.

In case you are wondering, it's not that i don't care but i don't have a clue about your problem.

I am not blaming you. I just wanted to explain why I didn't go straight to the source in the first place. I do appreciate that you tried to help.

Sometimes if I have issues with steam itself (not the games) I will go into my steam folder and find the .blob (might be in a "bin" folder) files and delete them and start steam. This causes steam to update itself again. Just a thought.

Thanks. I actually did try this (someone suggested it on SteamPowered.com), but it didn't change anything. I appreciate the advice though.

I am still surprised that this is so rare, since it has been consistently broken with each computer I installed it on.

When installing Steam did you disable any Anti-virus spyware, and adware runninng? There's a spot in the forums that mentioned leaving them running while installing could cause problems. It mentioned several of them by name but the only ones I remember off hand where Kapervsky (something like that) and Grisoft's AVG. I think those were two of them.

I do use AVG. I will try uninstalling Steam, then disabling AVG, then reinstalling to see if that fixes the issue. I will have to wait until later tonight to try this though. thanks for the suggestion.
