Got trouble with my SB 5.1 Platinum.
When trying to record sound (in any way, microphone, CD, aux etc.) I get a distorted sound when playing it. I have all the latest drivers, and what really troubles me is that it used to work fine. I don't know what has happened.
Even tried to make a fresh installation of Win98, but to no use.
Here is a thing that might be the caused for the distortion - I have not grounded my computer. Just don't have it in the room. Tried to ground the case with the radiators and I got some tiny sparks! That freaks me out! But, I dragged a 50 foot cord throught the house from the kitchen's grounded outlets - didn't help.
Have I blown a circut in the card, or can I fix it?
*** Solution! ***
I had flashed my BIOS (A7V) with a modified version of 1007, called 1007fix, meant to fix the error that makes the CPU work at all times. Anyway, I flashed the BIOS back to the 1007 and now things work as they should. Have not yet grounded the outlet, though.
