Trouble with New System/Cooler Master V8

Okay so I finally got my new system parts, etc. in yesterday and I am having a bit of trouble with the CPU cooler I ordered.

The holes on the motherboard (P6T Deluxe) seem to be sufficient, but the holes on the brackets that came with and attach to the actual cooler (Cooler Master V8) seem to be too small for the screws to fit. I checked the other brackets that came with the cooler for other socket types and found that those holes are a bit too small as well. Anyone here that has had this problem with the V8? I guess either I can return it (though it does have thermal grease on it) or borrow a drill from someone and make the holes bigger myself. Frustrating!

So what do you think:

1) Return for refund and use the default Intel cooler?
2) RMA?
2) Return for another (better?) cooler?
3) Find some way to make it work like drilling new holes?

So the screws are too big to screw into the backplate? They look like that on most screwed setups, and are hard to get started on a thread. I'm sure they fit, you just have to mess around with them for a while to get them in. Try for a few minutes outside of the case before you do anything

Well, I tried messing with this for two hours straight last night. Just using the brackets I cannot get them threaded enough to screw in. Very frustrating. When I get home from work today I will give it another go, but I don't think it's going to fit.

From cruising around several other forums, including CoolerMaster's own, it seems you're not the only one with the problem....with this and other CM heatsinks.

But, I've always ended up trashing every CM heatsink I've ever bought because in the end, they're more flash than quality built pieces of whatever (V1, Gemini II, etc.).

CM makes good cases, but is not the best heatsink maker. I trust only those from mostly dedicated heatsink makers these days instead of companies that try to be everything to everyone........a Jack of all trades means a master of none. Wish CM would learn that and focus more on their core products instead of putting out scatter gunned products for "everyone."

Awesome, so basically I paid $50 for a piece of junk?!? Oh well, I suppose I can only blame myself since that is really the only computer part in my new system that I didn't do my homework on. I wonder if I can get store credit from Newegg if I return it.

So, I suppose my next question is: What cooler would best work with my P6T/1366 socket? Does the default one from Intel do any good?

Don't know if this is the part you're talking about, but...

"...After you have selected the proper brackets you then install the double threaded screws. As with the V10, the part which attached the screws to the bracket is a Bastard Thread and thus screws in backwards. In other words you tighten it down just like you would to remove a normal thread."
