Edit: Problem solved. Heatsink wasn't seated properly. Thanks for your input!!

I am having problems with my new setup.

1) Power stays on for about 1 minute, then turns off by itself. Is this from the power supply? It's a 480W Enermax/Coolergiant brand new. With 20pin to 24pin converter connector. Motherboard has 24pin connector for PSU. Do I need an ATX v2.0 PSU?

Here is my setup:

Motherboard - GIGABYTE "GA-8I915P Duo(REV 1.1)"

CPU - Intel 64bit 3.2GHz

Power Supply - Enermax/Coolergiant EG485P-VHB SFMA

Memory - Kingmax SuperRAM Series Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200, Model MPXD42D-2

I also have ATI x800xl vid card(PCI-E).

Case - Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower Black

TIA

1) You did boot with the heat sink fan installed, did you?

2)Sounds like your computer is trying to load Windows from your HDD. Please make sure in the BIOS that your DVD drive is set as the first boot device.

good luck

Currently, it has the floppy drive as the 1st boot device, but I don't have a floppy connected. Plus, right in the middle of setting up the bios to change the bootup sequence, the computer shut down.

And yes, the heatsink is installed on the CPU.

Ok.. looks like booting up is good. It booted up to my XP disc in dvd drive. It got past the "Press F6 to install Raid" then a few seconds later shut down. I'm starting to think its the power supply.

Unit only stays on for 1 minute then turns off. Though power supply fans keep going, but turn off after awhile.

Do you have all the correct plugs connected to the mobo...the 20pin one plus the additional square 4 pin one??? Some boards even have an EZ plug for a standard 4 pin molex.....

Try one stick of ram and swap to different dimm sockets...

At bootup, it recognizes the 1gb of ram. I'm wondering if I really do need an ATX v2.0 power supply. My motherboard has the 24pin socket for PSU. I guess I could try swapping memory sticks.

Yes. I do have all correct pins connected. As mentioned above, my motherboard has a 24pin connector, but my power supply is 20pin. So I have a 20pin to 24pin connector installed. And the 4pin connector is plugged in too.
