Trouble with networking and Win98

Hey all,

As i posted on the networking forum, i am having problems with my network, and i think the problem is that when i first installed this network card, windows asked for some files that i couldnt find anywhere, so i just ignored them and continued to install. After i got the net to work, it worked very slowly, and now, after reinstalling the drivers to see if it could fix this problem, the net can't work anymore ( I've already tried to reinstall the whole net, including protocols, etc. ). I already had this problem of the net refusing to work ( i receive some message saying i cannot access the network ) and a whole net reinstall would fix that. So, the question is, how can i fix this problem and is there any way to make windows think there never was any networking installed, removing all network related files, references, drivers, so i could do a clean reinstall of the whole net ?

Btw, i am using win98se with a cheapo no brand network card.
Thanks in advance,

Ivan

you need to reinstall the card
the files it is looking for is in the win98 folder of the install cd and for some reason it doesn't find them. you have to type the directory address manually and it will find the files it needs. often after it goes there, it then can't find the correct files it needs form the floppy if that is where the drivers for the card are coming from and you have to then give that directory address manually.

jangoux,

This sounds very familiar, I had exactly the same problem happening with mine.

How many PC's on your network?

I have a Crossover network of 2 pc's and I solved the problem by ensuring that all settings were identical on both PC's and when I changed the speed from 100mbps to 10mbpsit actually speeded up.

Check all those settings, trying and pick ones rather than use autosense.
