Trouble with Network, Internet Connection Speed

A couple of days ago my internet connection got really slow. I could not connect to webpages often and AIM would not connect.

My VOIP works without a hitch. I've reset the router and cable modem, but it doesn't seem to do any good.

I can't figure out what it is. I can ping to google just fine, no packet loss. I haven't done or change any network settings.

Maybe your ISP's DNS servers are having problems. Which naturally they'll never admit to  Try pinging their DNS servers by IP address when you experience the problem, and see if one or both are not responding. One solution is to use alternate DNS servers.

Do you have wireless and if so, is its security enabled to keep nearby people from using it without your knowledge? And/or do you share your connection with any other computers?

Another tangent: have you scanned your system for spyware/adware with, say, Microsoft Antispyware beta? If you do so, also have WinsockFix on hand to repair your connection in the event that tearing out spyware/adware also nukes your browsing completely.

If you have older or out-of-date antivirus software, also run an antivirus scan using some online browser-based scanners. I have some linked on this page and you might grab Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer too, it's cool 😎

Hope that's some help 🙂

I do have wireless, but not WEP enabled. I don't think that's the problem though, since I check all of the logs and haven't found anything wrong.

All of the computers in my house have the same problem, but I think I've narrowed it down: the VOIP adapter.

If plug from the VOIP router to my computer, then I still get the no connect/slow connect. But If plug directly from the cable modem, it works fine.

Now I have to figure out what's wrong with the VOIP adapter.
