Trouble with my home network...

I have a home network which consists of a high-speed cable connection shared between two machines via a Linksys BEFSR41. One machine is right next to the router, connected by 6 ft. of network cable. We will call it machine A. The other machine is about 75ft worth of CAT5 cable away. We will call it machine B.

Throughout the entire time that I have had this network, it has been a major pain in the @$$. At times, machine B would refuse to open webpages or allow applications to access it. So, since it was running the first edition of Win98, I decided to install XP on it. Even after that, I still have problems with it to this day.

Currently, I am able to access the computer across the home network, and the router acknowledges that it is connected. I can even use VNC to acces the thing, but I cannot access any webpages from it. The DNS settings are identical to machine A, which I am on right now. Anyone have any ideas about how to remedy this problem? If you need any more details such as names of network cards, etc., just ask. Thanks.
