specs

Core i7 920
6Gb ram 3X2Gb
sapphire radeon HD 4850 X2
ASUS P6T mobo
vista home premium 64 bit.

I have not overclocked anything

I just set up my stystem and everythign seems to be running ok until I do a 3dmark vantage. The first time I ran it there were all kinds of artifact flying around. some random horizonal lines and also something that looked like waterfalls randomly flasing in and out of existance all over the place. So I did some searching and someone somewhere suggested to torn off catalys AI. I turned AI off and the artifacts are gone but the performance is still pretty bad. score is 7693 with setting at performance. link to 3dmark score and fps's

I am hoping that this is just a driver issue and not a problem with the card. I am kind of unfamiliar with how this card works do I have to do anything to make sure that both gpu's are being used in paralell? also there are two power connections on the card: an 8 pin connection and a 6 pin connection. I connected power to both connecters Is that correct? does anyone have any configuration suggestions for this card? what about driver suggestions?
thanks

Which drivers are you using? If you haven't already, download the latest from the AMD website.

I intially downloaded the most recent and the problem existed. Then I did some web searching and and saw that someone said to use the drivers from sapphire's website. so I did a clean install of the sapphire provided drivers and had the same problem. when I turned off the CCC AI, the artifacting went away but the performance is still low ( I think)

oh and BTW 650W PSU

What brand 650w PSU?

Hmm...just sounds like maybe Crossfire isn't working. Have you tried any games? Do those perform badly?

Also, what motherboard do you have? Have you updated your motherboard BIOS? A while back I remember some x2 cards didn't work with some motherboard without a BIOS update.

I got artifact flying around with my 4850X2 with CCC 9.2 only with 3dmark vantage, not in game.
I'm back to CCC 9.1 from sapphire's website.
Also make sure you turn on cross fire.
Also I replaced my Ultra 600W 18A+18A(would not run with cross fire enabled) with BFG 650W 20A+20A.

Well I updated the bios and the artifacts seem to be back. I dont see the artifacts in Dawn of war II. I can play that at full graphics settings without a problem. What benchmark should I get to determin weather my system is performing as it should?

That is a good point but I guess what I am worried about is that there might be some intermittent or specific problem with my gfx card that vantage happens to expose but dawn of war 2 doesn't. If there is something wrong with my card I want to know now so I can go through the RMA process. maybe 6 months from now a game that I want will also utilize whatever feature is broken on my card and It will be past the RMA period.

I would like to compare a benchmark for my pc to similar setups to see that mine perform they way it should. If it ends up lacking significantly in some area then I can start to investigate.

am I being silly?
