I have my cable tv line running through my JVC HR-VP58U VCR to my TV (19" Orion with coaxial input only). I want the audio to come out through the RCA audio cables from the VCR to my receiver. I'm not getting anything. Is this possible? Am I just not doing it right?

I would imagine the cable out is a simple pass through. It's unlikely the VCR is separating the audio.

Yes, its possible. Are you using the tuner on the VCR (not the TV)? Are the cables on the VCR hooked up to audio out (not in), and to an appropriate input on the receiver?

No, not using the tuner on the tv. I need to figure that out, I guess. Yes, the audio cables are hooked up correctly. Speakers from receiver work fine with tapes.

turned out to be channel 4, but it works! next problem: channel changer doesn't work. it defaults to F-1 if I change the channel up or down, but works fine if I type in the numbers on the VCR remote. ideas? :)

Hmm, still no luck with the channel changer. I can't flip through channels, I have to input the channel number manually :( Any ideas?

got a universal you can try? you can probably get one for $10 at your local Walmart/Radioshack/Canadian Tire type store to check.

Also - check the batteries - will make remotes do screwy things.

What happens if you puch channel up/down on the front of the VCR itself?
