trouble with first network/winxp and win98

Hi

I can get online with both PCs but can't see the files on the other PC.
It seems to be a software configuration issue.

Here's the configuration:

PC #1
3 partitions:
C- Fat 32, win 98
D - NTFS, win xp-- usually (and prefer to) boot from here.
E - FAT32- no OS

PC #2,
1 partition, win98SE

Linksys router BEFSR41 to cable modem.

Anyone have ideas? I'm afraid to really play with it too much because I don't want to lose my net connections.

Thanks for the links. I followed all the instructions, rebooted both systems, but still no go. The PC#2 (win98) is in its own Network Neighborhood, but not showing on Winxp system. THe 3 partitions on PC 1 (booting from winxp) show the hand under them like they're shared but don't show in the winxp network places.

Any more ideas?

update:
when i boot pc1 into win98 and pc2 into win98, they can share files (along with net access for both)

when i boot pc1 into XP and pc2 into win98, both show up in their own network neighborhood but not each others ( i know about fat32 not seeing ntfs but at least win xp shld see win98, and win98(=pc2) shld see the 2 fat 32 partitions on pc1).

so anymore ideas, please?

thanks

I had the same problem with win98, xp home and a router. lots of internet but no files. I saw some thread in here which prompted me to add netbeui on the win98 box and netbios on the xp one and now it all works.
