Trouble with Firefox downloading

-Whenever I right click save as in Firefox, and start a download, the download never starts.
-If I left click a link and it brings up the window to Save as, THEN the download works correctly. I am fine with doing this, but this isn't always an option
If I open an MP3 file in Firefox and it begins to play using quicktime, I try going to "File->Save Page as" and the downloaded file never shows up where I save it to.
-this all applies to "Save Image as" also
-Downloads never showup in the Downloads window at all


How do I fix this?

I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling my addons and I tried uninstalling/reinstalling firefox. I don't think everything from firefox was reinstalled because it kept my favorites so maybe the error was one of the things that never got uninstalled.

See if this works:

In the Firefox url box type About:Config (no spaces)

A box opens across the upper area labeled Filter. In there type Download

For the parameter

browser.download.manager.alertOnEXEopen

right click and make sure the string value is set to true.

I'm not 100% confident this is the fix you need but since your help request has been languishing here awhile, thought I'd take a shot at trying to help you.
