Trouble with fans...

I noticed some random crashing while playing games the other day that I couldn't immediately attribute to some hardware problem. However, when I took the case panel off I did notice that the problems subsided greatly.

Unfortunately, I've now determined that my northbridge fan requires a good prodding to get it going at bootup, and seems to struggle along at a not really constant speed. (DFI NF4-UT Ultra-D)
Perhaps even worse, the fan on my Asus X800XL is making very very loud noises and seems to be on the verge of dying after only 1 year.

Things are, however, stable, but I worry about what it will be like 1 month from now.

Are there any replacement solutions available that won't break the bank?

Oh, i know how to fix an overheating computer easily, just remove all the pci slots at the back and it should be cooler.

you need consistant airflow if you use fans.

generally, you want to push air in from the front and out from the back and out from the top, out from the side.

Yeah I've been running it with the case open, and its getting colder now weather wise so its not a huge deal, but I was kind of hoping for a replacement HSF for each...does something like that exist?

I've had more trouble with those tiny chipset fans over the years than any case fan or PSU fan...

Just replace it and plan on replacing it again in another 12 months or so assuming you don't upgrade before then.
