Trouble with "Driver stopped" error with 3870

Okay so I've tried my card at many different speeds...stock is 777/1200. It runs Crysis at 890/1330 fine but every other game (COD4, Gears of War, Need for Speed Pro Street), it keeps giving me that "driver stopped" error. I put it to stock memory speeds (keeping the core at 850) and still get the same error, but again, except in Crysis. It will go for a while at 777 core...but as I said it won't run at stock memory speeds...which should be 1200MHz.

I did a fresh install of Vista and still get the same.

What do ya'll think? RMA (since the card won't even run other games at stock speeds)?

It was fine up until what I think was a Vista update...then I tried the fresh install and still get the same error. I've tried the 7.11 drivers and the ones that came with the card and still get the same.

I'll give memtest a whirl overnight and see if that's okay.

Are you using a modified bios? Why not change it back and see if the problem persists?

stock mem speed is actually probably 1126 on yours. Mine and yours both showed 1200 at newegg, but when I got the card it defaulted to 1126. that doesn't mean that it won't work at 1300 under normal circumstances, but...check the box for default settings. you will probably have trouble rma-ing if it is perfectly fine at 1126.

Crysis is fine no matter which one I use...it's every other game that screws up regardless of driver.

Yeah it is 1126 but Diamond and NCIX have both posted 1200 so it should work at that speed (even if I use CCC to set it at that speed). I'm gonna call NCIX tomorrow and see what they say. I paid for XPressRMA so hopefully they crosship me one as well...if they have stock of course.

Tell me about it...I'm probably gonna have to wait a while to get one in return since they're usually OOS.

Try tweaking your NB voltage settings or lowering your C2D OC (and adjusting Vcore/NB/Vdimm voltages down, accordingly). Vista is definitely more of a PITA with how WDDM handles the video driver (basically creates a copy of what's in VRAM), so any problems with the video card or memory subsystem can result in TDR stop errors.

Hmm...interesting...I'll try to install WinXP and see if that makes a difference.
