Trouble with controller in NHL2001

I have the microsoft sidewinder and am running w2k, 800 Athlon, 128meg

The controller behaves eratically.(I mean the controller and buttons work, but during the game and you can definitely see in the menus that the controller is moving on it's own). I have already tried to reconfigure it but it still happens. Could anyone help me?

its probab;ly win2k, what directx are you running 7 or 8? its probably directinput problems

Sidewinder Freestyle Pro? This controller has many problems coming coming out of D-Pad mode (just in case)

It's microsofts original Sidewinder game pad..It happens under both directx 7 and 8..Actually it was worse under 8.
