Trouble with brand new laptop

We recently built a desktop 7600x/RTX 4070 system that has been rock solid, our new laptop, not so much.

It randomly freezes up during downloads, opening a new game or doing anything new. Once something is running it seems to do fine.

We just played Quake1 enhanced. I moved the laptop and tried to continue but it wouldn't run. GOG game file check hung and now a fresh install is hung at 94%.

Ran a windows RAM check which did not find any problems.

It is new enough i should be able to take it back?

Suggestions?

The BIOS automatically updated itself!??

Checked SMART and ran a couple drive scans. Deleted GOG and reloaded. All good so far.

Could run an extended memtest...

Took the Asus back to BB for a swap. With none in stock a new one should arrive in 2 days, shipped for free to the house.

BB is the best of both worlds with their online shopping blended perfectly to their brick and mortar store. When I returned the laptop they scanned the code on the box and asked my name and that was it. I didn't need to show a receipt or provide ID. It was a smooth process. If I hadn't nuked the drive they would have done it for me.

I'm not happy that the laptop needed to be returned but BB made the experience as painless as possible.

The contrast between our latest desktop (which has been practically flawless) and this laptop is really something. Both stand out compared to previous experiences.

Most every other time there has been some amount of fiddling around and then a system is more or less reliable. Our 7600x/4070 has been one of the best ever with minimal fiddling and zero reliability issues so far, knock wood.

I've never taken a computer back before so the Asus has set a new record. I guess if it was a hand-built only the bad part(s) would have been RMAed.

Laptop #2 has arrived. The box is banged up a bit. If this one has issues it is going back for good ...

Take some DX12 FPS or open world game, set resolution to 720p and run with Adrenaline settings all maxed out, like AA, tesselation etc. and force the setting rather than letting the game decide. If that passes, test again at max settings @1080p. Both pass? It's good then.

The second Tuf has been solid. Changing certain settings on RTX Quake 2 locks up the game but not the whole system.

Trying to play Witcher, CP77 and God of War but all require more keys than I'm accustomed to from FPS.

I was able to adapt to Bioshock easily. Stun em with plasmids and then gun em down.

Return the laptop ASAP! Wait for next generation Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite to become cheap!
