I have a Sony Vaio FXA49 that locks up regularly. I sent it in to Sony, and they claimed they fixed it, and yet it has locked up 4 times this morning alone. Does anyone have any idea what the problem was? The dealer said they uninstalled and reinstalled "Systemworks" but I don't have that on my machine. Anyone offer any help?

If they said they installed Systemworks, they may be referring to Norton SystemWorks. If you have any Norton Utilities, that may be it. If so, run their diagnostics. That may help you find your problem.

Another possiblity is that the power in your area is flakey. If the line voltage in your area, or your house, dips low, get spikes on your line, you may need to do some line conditioning, such as a UPS or surge suppressor). The problem may just be in the room, or on the particular circuit you are using.

Last possiblity (for now) is that some component that is thermally unstable, such as your CPU, RAM, or vid card. If you live in a warm area, Sony's testing may not have spotted the problem unless they tested your system in a similar environment.

Hope that helps. Good luck. :)
