Well the books that come with the game (Aoe2 & The Conquerer's Expansion) say you can use onagers to cut a path through forrests. But, I've never been able to get this to work. I've onagers in all their stages of strength. I've tried putting them at the limit of range. I've tried them in close. I point 'em at the trees I want to clear, click attack ground, and point the hachet at the trees. The onager fires away forever, but never takes out a single tree! Am I missing something? Anyone had a similar experience? Know of a cure?
Thanks,

Steve

It's been a while since I have tried, but if I remember correctly, some civs can use onagers to crush through trees, and some can't. Try a few different civs and see what your results are. I have did this before, but just don't remember... Have you upgraded your onagers? You can also use treebuchets to do this. Guess I'll play a game tonight and see because now I'm curious.

Come to think of it, I've probably only tried with the Vikings and Britons. I'll try a few others. And yes, I've tried with the basic onager and the upgraded version.

Ok, now I'll pull my foot out of my mouth and my head out of my .... Tree clearing requires a siege onager. I've been playing the same two civs for a long time (Vikes & Brits) and that level onager isn't in their tech tree. However, they have access to it if "All Techs" is enabled.

Thanks for responding,

Steve
