Trouble shooting laptop

Upon booting it says, something is missing yada yada yada... press r to repair. Took OS disk pressed the Any key to boot from CD dirvers were loaded, when asked what to do, i hit the R key and it said no disk is found. In the laptop bios, there is a check disk test for the Hard drive, ran it twice and it passed both times, did the R sequence of events and said i had no hard drive. tried doing a total reinstall and it says no drive again....

any ideas?
