Trouble shooting DNS question

If the DNS server (Windows 2000 box) stops responding to a client, and I am able to successfully ping the DNS server from the workstation, what would be the next step in trouble shooting this?

I'm guessing that NSLOOKUP would be logical? Should I see if the server will respond using the nslookup command

or

verify DNS registrations for domain controllers (again nslookup)?

or

renew DNS client registration with ipconfig /renew?

Thanks

try release/renew with ipconfig
but i am not sure if it's going to work..
if it doen't try recreating the conn. and install ur tcpip and communications and that should pretty much fix the prb

If its your server and you can ping it but its not serving dns info, I'd first check and be sure the dns service was running....
