trouble shooting an A7n8X-X mobo

I'm attempting to troubleshoot a problem with my nephews computer, it's running an ASUS A7N8X-X with an AMD athlon 2700+ and an ATI X800GTO. I was having trouble getting the ati drivers to install correctly, getting 1316 errors and all that. Got that straightened out, reinstalled steam and HL2, and when you start a new game the system reboots with no errors or anything. which is the problem he was having originally.

I ran mem test and evidently one of his sticks had errors, I took it out and no errors after running mem test again. Boot up into windows and try HL2 again, still same result, it restarts when a new game is started.

I tried out Hot CPU tester Pro and it came up with no errors. Tried CPU stress test and the system didn't restart after 12 hours. Does anyone know of any other diagnostics I could use that would give me an idea of what exactly is going on? Something that tests the board, ram, cpu, videocard, and HDD would be ideal. I tried to run memtest again but it freezes and restarts now...

Also if anyone knows whats going on just from my description please let me know. I imagine it's either the ram or motherboard, I also thought it might be a dieing PSU but I don't have a definite answer.

Sounds like it could be a power supply problem.

Do you have a spare PSU to swap in for the time being to see if that helps?

I have a couple 250watt PSU's laying around, if they won't work I have a 485W on my main rig which I know works so I'll try one of them.

The PSU he has in there is an older thermaltake silent purepower 450watt that he's been using for 5 years so it might be failing.
