I just installed a new samsung 160GB drive, Model SP1604N. It shows up fine in the bios. The drive shows up in the device manager as a hard disk and working properly. When I go to the device manager>properties >volumes > populate this is what I get: Disk: Disk 1
Type: unknown
status: not initialized
partition style: not applicable
capacity:152625 MB
reserved space: 0 MB
Tried updating the driver, unplugging the drive and plugging it back again. Don't know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Under control panel | administrative tools, open computer management. An item within there is called Disk Management. Within that tool, you should be able to create a partition for the new hard drive and format it with whatever filesystem you need. At that point, you can assign a drive letter.
