Ok just got my LeadTek 6800GT and i run 3dmark and get 11,000.
Next i install the stock nvidia reg key to allow for overclocking and oc from 350/500 to 400/550, test it and everything is fine. I then run 3dmark 03 again and my score is 8500! :Q

WTH is up with that? Do i need to up my agp voltages or something?

no no leave the voltages where they are

if you need to turn any up its the actuall GPU voltage and for that you need a BIOS flash or mod.

clock it back down, and start from stock going up say 10-20Mhz at a time. it could be that 400/550 is too high for that card. and as a result it is clocking down to protect itself

I have the same card and it tends to throttle. Yeah it really frustrating, no artifacts, but you get worse performance as you clock higher. I found that the core can clock at about 390, and memory 530. I use these conservative numbers because every game behaves differently, I've gotten better performance in doom3 for example, but worse in painkiller. So, I use 390/530 and I get across the board better performance. I think it has something to do with the cooling. The leadtek hsf looks impressive, but it still cant handle overclocking very well.

Anyway, you are going to have to use more than one benchmark to gauge performance. Use timedemos as well as 3dmark. Watch temps, if you are hitting 85C your card will start to throttle. Hope that helps.

Well i used the detect optimal speed fuction and it came out as 406/1.11 or even slightly higher. I just lowered it a little so it could resemble an ultra for good measure. Also my temps have never reached beyond 75 and after just running 3dmark once it's usually only at 68-70.

Guess i'll try some lower increments. Another question...if i use the auto-overclock feature would that be the same as using the "detect optimal settings option?

Detect optimal settings gives you different values everytime. It's not good for anything really. You are better off manually overclocking and benching after every adjustment. Performance will decrease if you go to high. Start with core and then do memory. Do not do both at the same time.

I've owned 3 leadtek 6800gt's all of them behave this way. Most graphic cards tend to artifact if you go to high, with this particular card, no artifacting, but performance decreases. It ends being quite time consuming overclocking them.

A second to g33k's comments FROM another Leadtek A400GT owner. I could only get mine to hit around 370 MHz core before THIS loss-of-performance. :(
