i was wondering if anyone could help me with my overclocking troubles... i have an a7v with an 800 tbird. when i try increasing the multiplier to 8.5 or anything higher, my computer sometimes will not boot, and often freezes.. is this because of heat probelms? i've got an alpha pal6035 on the cpu, so i dont think the hsf is the problem. same thing happens when i try to increase the bus speed. anything above 100 and it will freeze every 10 min or so.. could it be ram? i decrease the ram to 100 mhz, and same thing happens. could it be that i have a processor that just wont overclock? any suggestions???

my current config:
Asus a7v bios 1005d
800 tbird
256 mb 133 mhz generic ram

I finally managed to unlock mine using pencil. I run at 1000mhz totally stable too. I cannot get above that though, not even 1050.

What voltage are you using? My bios says I'm at 1.84v, but I'm at the scond from the highest voltage setting, labled in the manual as 1.775/1.80. Also, if high temps freak you out, use BIOS 1003. I don't know the technicalities, but it runs your IDLE cpu up to 10 degrees less than 1004 or newer. I'm using a modified one w/out the Promise BIOS because back then there was no option to disable the promise BIOS. But I run idle at like 31-33c! Of course, Quake3 pushes it back to up to 42c, but at least it's not frying just for Windows stuff like IE, I get about 34-36c for that stuff. As far as the OC though, I'm also gonna re-apply it w/ a conductive pen cuz I don't like removing ma HSF every month. I've grinded the edges of my core already [I had been using a Tt Super Orb='em, awful], it's a wonder my system runs...good luck.
