trouble installing XP over RAID

I've tried using RAID 0, 3, & 5 for a home box with installing WinXP and for some reason can't get it to work without a whole lot of hastle.

For some reason I keep getting errors reading the cd and I have to manually take the cd out, then put it back in for it to see a lot of files when it gets to the point where it's actually setting up.

So far i've used 2 different cd-rom drives. I know the cd positively works when i installed it on my test box which uses an IDE hdd. The RAID card (AMI express 500 series) works because i've gotten win2k to install on the same drives i'm trying to get XP on..

Any ideas?

Tyan Thunder K7 (dual 1.2 palamino)
1.5G Registered DDR 2100 RAM
6x 9.1G IBM 36LZX
AMI Express 500 series RAID card

using a cheap $15 vid card because I was getting some weird green screen during setup with the Tyan onboard vid...

Help is appreciated!
