Trouble installing XP on a new machine

I just built a new machine but am having troubles installing Windows XP. It gives either corrupted files errors or a blue screen of death. It doesn't get very far in the installation, it gets past the detection of the hardware but not into the part where you partition. Furthermore, my XP 2200+ seems to be running hot. I'm using the Thermalright AX-7 and the temps seem to be at 65+. I'm wondering if the problems can be attributed to the temperature of the processor which is causing the installation to be unstable. Or could it be something else?

Also, my Lite-On DVD Drive is not being detected in BIOS or at start up. Could it be DOA or can I get it to be recognized somehow?

Here's the stats of my computer:
Epox 8k3a+
Athlon XP 2200+
Lite-On DVD ROM Drive
Lite-On 48x CDRW
Thermalright AX7 Heatsink
Abit Geforce4 Ti4600
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
D-Link NIC
