Hi. I am having trouble installing XP 64 on my computer. I have a SATA drive, which is on my VIA VT8237 controller. I had to download some drivers from Planet AMD64 which recognized my drive when I go to install windows, but when it starts copying files, it will randomly not copy some files.

Example, first time I tryed installing it could not find win32k.sys, which was at about 2% but the second time, it got to around 65% and started not finding some files. I am fairly certain its not the disk, its brand new.

Does anyone know why?
Any help would be appreciated. I am very eager to get XP 64 running!

Thanks

I've seen the same symptoms when trying to install Win/Xp (32 bit) on a PC that had bad memory. Try running memtest.

Yeah, post your full specs if you continue to have issues, because some mobo/RAM combinations benefit from a boost in memory voltage too.

Thanks for your posts!

Asus A8v Mobo
3500+ Winchester
512 HyperX RAM Dual Channel
200GB Seagate SATA

Nothing is overclocked. This never happens to me when I install 32-bit Windows. Could it maybe be the SATA drivers I am using when I try to install windows are not working correctly? I tryed using drivers that were on the VIA website that said they are for my controller, but when I try to select them in windows setup, it says that theres an error in oemsetup.txt or some file name like that

If you have any memory errors in Memtest, try bumping the memory voltage to 2.7 volts (stock is 2.6 on an A8V) and test again. Also, got any spare PATA drives you could try instead?

Hey, I tryed using a PATA drive but still the same errors, so that must mean its not the SATA drivers im using. Can someone please help me with MemTest. I have heard much about it but dont know how to use it. Does it have to be used in DOS etc? If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Many thanks

I ran MemTest and got no errors. I also tryed installing a different copy of XP 64, a copy which was an evaluation that I got from microsoft, but still receives errors. Any one have any ideas?
