Trouble installing PCI wireless network cards

Hello all, I've been having trouble installing a wireless network card in my computer.

I've tried it with two different cards, the first a Dlink wlg520 card, the second a brand new Netgear WG311 v3 card.

on both systems, I install the drivers, then shut down, install the PCI card, reboot, and when windows comes back up the setup does not continue. Windows finds a PCI Ethernet card that it doesn't recognize and it can't find drivers on the CD or the installed directory. I tried downloading the newest drivers for each card and didn't get any further. I've attempted multiple uninstall/reinstall attempts to no avail with each card. Neither will work.

System is as follows

WXP 64bit SP2 (maybe 3?)
AMD 9950BE
MSI motherboard
Dlink wlg520/Netgear WG311 v3

thanks in advance!

Is wlg520 or wlg-520 the correct part number for the D-link adapter?
Where did you find 64-bit XP drivers for the Netgear card?

How are you installing drivers for hardware that's not present on the system?
I always install drivers after the hardware is installed.

The installation process for both devices has you install their software first from a CD, then turn off the machine to insert the PCI card, then restart to finish installation, which is when the problem starts, as nothing happens after restarting.

Apologies, the D-link card is a DWL-G520

I tried drivers both from the accompanying CD's for both products and drivers from their respective websites.

Are the drivers on the websites not functional for 64bit XP?

hrm, apparently XP64 drivers don't exist for either card I guess then.

Anyone know of a decent wireless PCI card or USB that works with XP 64?

-thanks!
